What is Reiki?

Updated: Jun 13, 2023

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique developed by Mikao Usui in the 1920's in Japan. Reiki is based on the premise that everything is energy, including us! Reiki balances the energy centers, or chakras, in the body which improves stress, anxiety, and overall wellness.

I was trained by Laurie Rodic from Angelic Roots in Reiki. Laurie uses the Usui method with a twist...our intuition. Though I did not learn classic hand placements, light touches are used during sessions. I also use essential oils, crystals, and sound during my Reiki treatments. Each practitioner is a little different. But, Reiki is always Reiki, and it knows what the body needs. Reiki can be done in person or at a distance. It is not a massage.

What does Reiki help with? Everything! It can help with depression, anxiety, physical ailments, child behavior issues and so much more.

What does a session look like? The client lays fully clothed, face-up on a massage table. With eyes closed, the client just relaxes for the session. Soft, healing music is played in the background. Light touches and various essential oils are used. Crystals may be placed on parts of the body. Sound is also used over the body in the form of chimes, drums, tuning forks, and singing bowls. From client feedback, the drum wash is a favorite!

When the session is complete, we talk about what chakras were out of balance and what chakras were focused on. We discuss how to keep these chakras in balance and what to do when we are feeling out of whack. If the client is open, an Oracle card is pulled.

An introductory session is a perfect way to check it out and see if Reiki can help you! As always, I am here for any questions you may have. Reach out in an email, direct message, or a text, anytime. I look forward to assisting you on your healing journey and bringing Reiki into your life.
